Point of Sale
2009 - ongoing
I began this series as a photographic study of small business interiors through the portraiture of employees and store owners found working at the time of the photograph. Each is taken with a similar composition for the purpose of consistent and direct aesthetic comparison. I pay specific attention to the space formed from the arrangement of display objects at the location of transaction, or the point-of-sale.
I see the resulting space created as a culmination of the workers' intentions and aspirations, revealing the point-of-sale as a type of shrine dedicated to the support and success of not only the people in the photographs but to the space itself.
